No. 1 WWE/WCW theme: Hulk Hogan
No. 1: Hulk Hogan’s theme (Real American, Rick Derringer, 1984)
This song totally captured Hulkamania. “I am a Real American! Fight for the rights of every man!”
The song has stood the test of time, with new generations appreciating it as well as older ones. Its popularity was most recently was revived in 2011, when President Obama used it at the beginning of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Like Obama or not, what a zinger to Donald Trump!
This theme had all the elements. It was a good song, it conveyed a message and a mood and it matched the personality of the performer. It likely will not be topped in my lifetime.
Please go back to the beginning to share this article: Top 10 WWE/WCW wrestling themes.
Honorable mention: Nature Boy Ric Flair and Space Odyssey
Here’s a few other options from WWE/WCW. Some of my options aren’t original compositions but they were signature pieces of music that were synonymous with the performer the song proceeded.
1. Fabulous Freebirds – Badstreet USA. The 1st original wrestling entrance song.
2. Undertaker – Graveyard Symphony/You’re gonna pay. Whether it’s the deadman or his biker gimmick, the Taker just has the right/perfect song.
3. Macho Man Randy Savage – Pomp and Circumstance. The legendary Gorgeous George gets props for being the 1st wrestler to use an entrance theme and this was the song, but for an entire generation or 3 of pro wrestling fans, that song meant 2 things: HS graduation or “Oooooh Yeah”
4. Stone Cold Steve Austin. Thinking that’s all that needs to be said.
5. Ric Flair – The “Sunrise” movement from composer Richard Strauss’s “Also Sprach Zarathustra.” aka theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Again nothing more need be said.
6. Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig – His entrance music was absolutely perfect.
7. The Legion of Doom The Road Warriors – OOOOOOOOOOH WHAT A RUSH!
8. APA
9. Diesel – Diesel Blues
10. The Rock.
Without Rick Rude, this list is sh*t.
