The final score was 63-0; most would look at such a score and think blowout.
..the game wasn’t even that close.
Zach Woods took the opening kickoff 75 yards to the end zone to give the 5A number one Carmel Greyhounds the lead before Lawrence North knew what hit it. The Greyhounds would go on to score 21 points in the first 5:52 of the game, and would never look back. The score was 35-0 after the 1st quarter, 49-0 at halftime, and with the reserves and junior varsity players in for the entire second half, Carmel reached the end zone two more times in the second half.
Lawrence North managed just four first downs on offense, and the Wildcats routinely gave Carmel field position in their territory for most of the evening. The Greyhounds started only one possession on their own side of the field in the first half, and that was at their 49 yard line. LN managed just 64 yards of total offense, including -8 yards rushing. Carmel countered with 364 yards of offense, but they didn’t need many yards with favorable field position most of the night.
The Greyhounds got touchdowns from seven different players on the night, and they did not punt the ball at all during the game. They also did not turn the ball over. It truly was a dominating performance in all phases of the game from start to finish.
Carmel will host North Central in their homecoming contest next Friday. They are now 5-0, and 3-0 in MIC play. Lawrence North falls to 0-5 on the season.
