IHSAA football tourney woes continue for Dragash; back for regionals

I’m such a rookie…
After feeling pretty good about myself posting a 20-10 record during the regular season, Yours Truly is suffering through the postseason at 4-11 after a 1-4 sectional final week. Fortunately, I have a gracious editor who has decided to continue to let me make my picks for the long haul.
I have learned a valuable lesson in this tournament: don’t pick against teams in the Indy area when they are playing teams from parts of the state who may have impressive numbers, but lack the competitive opponents that local teams see frequently. Take Greencastle…a defense that gave up a total of 14 points during the regular season…they were steamrolled by Chatard 50-7 last week. Thanks to Pike for helping me avoid the shutout!
So here’s another attempt at my first week above .500 in this postseason; thanks for coming back each week! Five games this time around:
Fishers at FW Snider
Fishers has been lights out since the return of their junior quarterback Connor Christiansen from an injury. This is another game where a three-loss Indy area team takes on an undefeated team from another part of the state. Snider does have impressive wins against Homestead and Penn on their resume’, but I’m going with the hot local team in this one.
Fishers 24, Snider 21
Pike at Lawrence Central
Pike has been on a roll this postseason, posting impressive wins vs. Ben Davis and Zionsville before taking care of Avon in the sectional final. LC has shown some signs of vulnerability in recent games. If this game were at Pike, I might be inclined to take Pike in the upset, but I’ll go with the Bears at home.
Lawrence Central 24, Pike 23
Mt. Vernon at Cathedral
Mt. Vernon has been unbeatable since an opening week loss to Kokomo, but none of those wins have been against an opponent that matches the caliber that Cathedral has to offer. The Irish are doing their usual play for the postseason routine, and they are coming off of an impressive win over Roncalli where they dominated in all phases of the game. I picked against the Irish last week; I won’t make the same mistake again this week.

Greensburg at Chatard
Again, another non-Indy area team facing a football power from the area. Greensburg brings a 10-2 record into this one, but they will be no match for the battle-tested Trojans.
Chatard 38, Greensburg 14
Shenandoah at Ritter
Ritter’s impressive season continues as they have been un-challenged in this postseason. Shenandoah is coming off of an upset of Heritage Christian last week in the sectional final. No such upset will happen this week.
Ritter 42, Shenandoah 17
