Butler’s Rotnei Clarke is A-10 player of the week
From Butler Sports Information
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. — Senior Rotnei Clarke, who helped lead Butler to a runner-up finish at the Maui Invitational, has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the period Nov. 19-25. He’s the first Butler player to earn the honor in the Bulldogs’ new conference.
Clarke hit one of the most dramatic shots of the early college season with a 25-footer at the buzzer to lift the Bulldogs past Marquette, 72-71, in the opening game of the Maui Invitational, and then he shared team scoring honors with 17 points in Butler’s victory over #9 North Carolina, 82-71. He finished a strong three-day run in Maui with a game-high 27 points against Illinois in the championship game of the tournament.
The 6-0 guard from Verdigris, Okla., averaged 21.3 points in Butler’s three games in Hawaii, and he finished as the second-leading scorer in the Maui Invitational. He was one of six players named to the All-Tournament Team at the eight-team invitational. His 27 points against Illinois were a Butler career-high, while his six rebounds against Marquette matched his career-high.
Clarke also was honored as the High Major Player of the Week by College Sports Madness, a college sports news and opinions website.
The Bulldogs, who are 34th in this week’s Associated Press national poll, will begin a three-game homestand on Tuesday, Nov. 27, against Hanover. That game at Hinkle Fieldhouse will start at 7 p.m. (ET).
