Purdue’s Taylor Manuel is Big Ten Freshman of the Week

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue’s Taylor Manuel earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors for the second time after tying her career high with 16 points in 17 minutes in Purdue’s 77-73 win over Northwestern on Jan. 24. She followed up her performance against the Wildcats with 12 points, three assists, four rebounds, a blocked shot and a steal in the Boilermakers’ overtime victory at Michigan State on Sunday, the first Purdue win in the Breslin Center since 2007.
The St. Louis, Mo., native averaged 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists in the two games, while shooting 71 percent from the floor. On the season, Manuel leads Purdue in field goal percentage, having hit 60-of-106 shots this season for 56.6 percent. She is averaging 8.1 points and 3.0 rebounds on the year. Manuel also was awarded the weekly honor on Dec. 10 and is the first Boilermaker to earn multiple Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors since Courtney Moses’ earned six as a freshman in 2010-11.
