Purdue women’s basketball player Taylor Manuel to transfer
From Purdue Athletics
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Sophomore Taylor Manuel will transfer from Purdue, head coach Sharon Versyp announced Friday.
-It saddens me that Taylor has decided to leave the Purdue family,” Versyp said. -We appreciate her contributions to last year’s Big Ten Tournament championship team and wish her the best in her future, both athletically and academically.”
Manuel was a freshman last season, helping the Boilermakers to a 25-9 record, the fourth Big Ten Tournament championship in Versyp’s seven years at Purdue and to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-2 center played in all 34 games, averaged 8.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 16 minutes per game, while shooting 52.8 percent from the field. The St. Louis, Mo., native was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.
The Boilermakers have three starters returning, including leading scorer Courtney Moses (13.3 ppg), point guard KK Houser (11.3 ppg and 4.7 apg) and senior guard Dee Dee Williams. A total of nine letterwinners are back and Versyp and her staff will have the services of Maryland transfer Whitney Bays this season. Also joining the roster are Ashley Morrissette, the 2013 Ohio Ms. Basketball and Bridget Perry, a 6-foot-2 guard/forward.
Manuel is expected to transfer to a Division II institution, but has not named a specific school.
Purdue will tipoff the 2013-14 season with an exhibition game against Clarke University on Nov. 3.
