Butler’s Roosevelt Jones suffers season-ending wrist injury

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. — Butler junior forward Roosevelt Jones will miss the 2013-14 men’s basketball season. Jones, who was Butler’s top returning scorer and rebounder, suffered a wrist injury during the Bulldogs’ recent trip to Australia and the injury has been determined to be season-ending.
-Roosevelt suffered an injury that resulted in ligament damage to his left wrist, and he’ll undergo season-ending surgery,” said Butler head athletic trainer Ryan Galloy. -His prognosis is good and he’s expected to make a full recovery for next season.”
Jones fell on his wrist in the first game of Butler’s exhibition trip to Australia, and he didn’t play in the final three games of the Bulldogs’ tour. His injury was examined further upon the team’s return to Indianapolis, and it was determined that surgery was necessary.
-First and foremost, our thoughts are with Roosevelt,” stated Butler head coach Brandon Miller. -He has worked very hard to position himself to have a terrific junior hear. Having said that, Roosevelt is a tough-minded, determined young man, and I am confident he will return from this adversity an even better player and person. Despite not playing, Roosevelt will continue to have an impact in leading this team as we move forward.”
Jones, a 6-4 forward, averaged 10.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and a team-high 3.5 assists for the 27-9 Bulldogs a year ago. He was the lone Butler player to start all 36 games in 2012-13, and he was looking to extend a streak of 67 consecutive starts in the upcoming season.
The gifted Butler player gained national recognition with a game-winning shot at the buzzer against #8 Gonzaga last season. The dramatic shot helped him gain USBWA Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week honors. He was named to the Atlantic 10 Conference All-Defensive Team and was picked to the Sports Illustrated All-Glue Team. As a freshman, Jones was named to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team.
Butler is heading into its first season under Miller, a former player and assistant coach for the Bulldogs. Miller was named Butler’s head coach in July.
