Terone Johnson, Carroll, Carter and Peck named Purdue hoops captains

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue men’s basketball head coach Matt Painter has announced that seniors Terone Johnson, Travis Carroll, Sterling Carter and Errick Peck will serve as the team captains for the 2013-14 season.
“Terone and Travis have given four years to this program and have been outstanding leaders and student-athletes since the day they joined our program. They wear the Purdue jersey with pride and play hard and with purpose every time they step on the floor,” Painter said. “Errick and Sterling came into our program over the summer and immediately bought into what we are trying to accomplish at Purdue. They have been very receptive, hard-working, driven and motivated to end their careers on a high note. All four of them will be tremendous captains for our squad.”
Johnson enters his senior season needing just 65 points to become the 47th player in school history with 1,000 points. He was named third-team All-Big Ten a year ago after averaging 13.5 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. He has played in 102 career games in his three previous seasons at Purdue, missing just one game – last year’s season opener against Bucknell, while earning 49 starts.
Carroll has played in 99 career games throughout his Purdue career, earning 28 starts. Carroll has scored 191 points and grabbed 210 rebounds throughout his career, and has aided in the development of Purdue’s big men over the last three-plus years. Barring injury, Carroll could end up in Purdue’s top five in career games played.
Peck is in his first year at Purdue after spending three seasons at Cornell. He missed his entire junior season at Cornell after suffering a dislocated kneecap, but returned to be named honorable mention All-Ivy League as a senior. For his career, Peck has scored 680 points, grabbed 281 rebounds and dished out 93 assists. Peck started both exhibition games for the Boilermakers, averaging 10.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game.
Carter is also in his first season at Purdue after spending the previous three seasons at Seattle University. One of three non-Indiana natives on the roster, Carter enters his senior season with 759 points while connecting on 170 three-pointers. As a freshman, he averaged 13.8 points per game while his 85 three-pointers were the third most nationally by a freshman.
The Boilermakers will open their season on Friday, Nov. 8, when they hosts Northern Kentucky at 7 p.m. (ET) in Mackey Arena.
