Purdue P Cody Webster finalist for Ray Guy Award

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The Augusta Sports Council has announced that Purdue’s Cody Webster has been named one of three finalists for the 2013 Ray Guy Award. The Ray Guy Award has been presented to the nation’s top punter on a yearly basis since 2000. Memphis’ Tom Hornsey and Texas A&M’s Drew Kaser are the other two finalists.
Webster, a senior from Harrisburg, Pa., is first in the Big Ten and 19th in the Football Bowl Subdivision in punting average (43.5). He has punted 65 times for 2.827 yards and has placed 22 of his kicks inside the opposition’s 20-yard line. He has booted two 73-yarders in 2013 and has 15 punts of over 50 yards this season. Webster is 11th nationally in career average (43.0) and his 227 career punts are second in Purdue history to 1989 All-American Shawn McCarthy, while his career average (43.0) is second in school history to 2001 Ray Guy Award winner and consensus All-American Travis Dorsch (48.5).
The Boilermakers are third nationally and first in the Big Ten as a punting unit with a net average of 41.5 yards per kick.
Webster will attend the Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Orlando, Fla., on Dec. 12, where the winner of the Ray Guy Award will be announced live on ESPN.
