The Purdue Boilermakers avoided the trap game that could’ve wrecked their season on Saturday night when they took down the talented, yet last place, Northwestern Wildcats in Evanston, Ill. Behind a huge game from big men A.J. Hammons and Isaac Haas the Boilermakers won the game 68-60.

The two centers for the team combined for 26 points on 9-for-11 shooting. Hammons had 16 points and nine rebounds and Haas added 10 points in just 11 minutes of action.

The win was the third consecutive for the Boilermakers, who moved to 6-3 in conference play and into a tie for second in the Big Ten.

Up next, the Boilermakers will host Ohio State at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Mackey Arena. A win against the highly regarded Buckeyes could outweigh early-season issues and help the Boilermakers stay on the path to turn heads for a NCAA tournament berth.
