Austin Appleby threw four touchdown passes to help Purdue defeat Indiana State 38-14 last Saturday in a warmup for this week’s game against Virginia Tech.

Appleby completed 20 of 34 passes for 289 yards. His scoring tosses went to four receivers — 57 yards to Cameron Posey, 50 yards to DeAngelo Yancey, 51 yards to Dan Monteroso and five yards to Markell Jones.

Appleby also ran for 50 yards on 12 carries for the Boilermakers.

D.J. Knox led the Boilermakers with 91 yards on 16 carries. Jones also ran for a 1-yard touchdown and had 99 yards from scrimmage to help Purdue bounce back from a 41-31 loss to Marshall.

Matt Adam passed for 194 yards and two scores and ran for 88 yards and Robert Tonyan added 74 yards and a touchdown on four catches for Indiana State.
