INDIANAPOLIS — Monday night marked the third time Paul George played against his former team at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Pacer fans continued to voice their displeasure with their old star with loud boos and chants throughout the night. This time around, George had the last laugh with 36 points and a 110-99 win for the Los Angeles Clippers.
To no one’s surprise, Paul George had some interesting comments after the game:
If you have some time, read the comments from that tweet. There have also been hundreds of “quote-tweets” from fans and media alike about PG’s comments that you can search.
George will forever be a polarizing figure in Indiana. He’s a complicated guy that speaks his mind, but often changes it. Despite some mutual animosity for one another, the Pacers and Paul George are both in a great place.
The Pacers shot just 33% in the 1st half and got outscored 28-14 in the paint. Things didn’t get much better from there. Other than a late 4th-quarter comeback attempt, the Pacers just didn’t have it in this one. The first game back from a five-game road-trip can do that to a team.
“It was just one of those nights,” said Doug McDermott. “Shots weren’t falling, even when we got good looks. We just move on to the next one- against another good team on Wednesday.”
The bright spot was one of the guys traded for Paul George. Domantas Sabonis had 22 rebounds, a new career-high, to go along with 18 points and four assists. The Pacers were a plus+14 with Sabonis on the floor for the night, meaning they were minus-25 when he was out.
Now sitting at 15-9 for the season, the Pacers will get another chance on Wednesday to prove they can beat one of the better teams in the NBA, the Boston Celtics.
