BLOOMINGTON — Mike Woodson cannot be stopped or contained. The new Hoosiers coach has been on fire in his first 10 days on the job. The majority of the IU team has already decided to stay after talking with him, Hoosier legend Dane Fife was hired as an assistant, and now… one of the best players in the transfer portal is headed to Bloomington.
Xavier Johnson is the newest addition to the Cream and Crimson. He’s a junior point guard who has played for Pittsburgh the last three seasons. This year, Johnson averaged 14.2 points, 5.7 assists, and 3.4 rebounds. He has shot the three at a decent clip in his career, and he will bring leadership and toughness to the Hoosier squad.
Trayce Jackson-Davis recruited Johnson heavily. He told JMV on the radio that he was “in Johnson’s ear” and mentioned his ability to lead a team and dish out assists. On February 3rd, Johnson had 32 points and seven assists against the #16 ranked Virginia Tech squad.
The Hoosiers had very lackluster point-guard play under Archie Miller this season. Johnson will be a big boost for a program that continues to gain momentum by the second. Don’t blink, or you might miss the next move for Woodson and company.
