Still time to catch the Indians this season

INDIANAPOLIS — I’ve always enjoyed coming to Victory Field and watching the Indianapolis Indians play. As a kid, I especially loved attending when the Iowa Cubs were in town. Because of league realignment, these teams didn’t play each other from 1998-2020. But now, this friendly rivalry has been renewed.
On a beautiful night for baseball #AtTheVic, fans were treated to a fun game that featured 2-time MLB All-Star Willson Contreras. The Chicago Cubs catcher has been on a rehab assignment, and after being retired in his first two plate appearances, Contreras made a loud noise in his next at-bat.
There was a lot of offense in this one, with the Iowa Cubs coming out victorious by a final score of 9-7.
The season is starting to wind down, but because of the pandemic and later start this year, minor league baseball is running deeper into the calendar year for 2021. The Indians still have 13 home games remaining, including a few more games with the Iowa Cubs this weekend, “Faith-Night” on October 1st, “Fan Appreciation Weekend,” and long series’ against Saint Paul and Nashville.
Attendance is down nearly 30% from previous seasons in minor league baseball across the country. Some of that drop is due to a handful of ballparks being limited on capacity. As for the Indians, they’ve maintained a top-5 overall attendance in MiLB since 2012, including the top attendance in the 2016-2017 seasons.
In my personal opinion, September is the best weather month for the state of Indiana. Take advantage and head out to Victory Field for a fun night at the ballpark. For tickets, go to indyindians.com.
