The Fever are the hottest ticket in town

INDIANAPOLIS — Before Friday night’s game between the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces, I headed to downtown Indy to have dinner with some friends. It was nearly three hours before tip-off, and the streets were absolutely buzzing. The fans were everywhere, wearing their Caitlin Clark/Fever shirts and anticipating the game. It honestly felt like a Pacers playoff game on the outside. Then on the inside, the ovation for the Fever when they came out of the tunnel was deafening. Chants of “De-Fense” and other big moments throughout the game were extremely loud as well.
What a difference a year makes.
The Fever have drawn over 300,000 fans to Gainbridge Fieldhouse this season, which is a new WNBA record for any team. They’ve had incredible ratings all season long. And those of you that have been to game this season know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s just different now. Number 22 is changing the game.
On Friday night, another record-breaking crowd witnessed another record-breaking moment. Clark dished out assist number 317 in the 317, setting a new single season WNBA record.
The Fever put up a great effort against the league’s best team, but ultimately fell short by a final score of 78-74. Despite the loss, the Fever have still gone 17-10 since their 2-9 start (thanks to a brutal opening schedule). They are 19-19 with two games to play, before the post-season.
After the game, Clark talked about how special it is to play in front of the Indianapolis crowd:
With Clark, Aliyah Boston, and Kelsey Mitchell, the Fever have a true “big three” to build with. They could be a dangerous team in this year’s playoffs. And the future is clearly bright in the Circle City, in more ways than one.
