Terre Haute North’s Barrett is Colts Coach of the Week

Terre Haute North’s Chris Barrett has been named the Colts/NFL Coach of the Week, a program presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
Barrett was selected after his Patriots upset Class 5A No. 6 ranked Warren Central 14-10. It was the program’s first win over the perennial powerhouse.
The 2012 season marks the thirteenth year the Indianapolis Colts will be recognizing outstanding Indiana High School football coaches through the Colts/NFL Coach of the Week program, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
The long-standing Warren Central dominance over Terre Haute North is over. The Patriots joined the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference in 1998 and Saturday was their first win over the Warriors, a team that has been a staple of the MIC for 16 years.
Defense was the key for the Patriots as they forced six turnovers and two goal-line stands to secure the four-point victory.
The game was delayed because of the weather with 2:06 left in the first half. The Warriors entered the postponement with a 10-0 lead. The game resumed Saturday afternoon and the extra rest gave the Patriots all the energy they needed as they were dominant the second half.
Our defense has carried us all year long, and against Warren Central they played physical hard-nosed football, Coach Barrett said.
The win brings the Patriots to 3-3 on the season and gives them a great deal of optimism heading into their remaining conference match-ups as well as the tournament which is right around the corner.
This is Barrett’s second Coach of the Week honor. The first came in Week 7 of the 2005 season when he led his Patriots to a 27-18 win over Carmel.
The Coach of the Week program was designed to recognize high school coaches who transform the best available athletes into high potential football players through their hard work and dedication to young people.
All high school head coaches in the state of Indiana are eligible regardless of their school size, league or division. Coaches are evaluated on various factors including the coach’s impact on his team, school and community, as well as performance of the team. The honorees are selected by a panel of high school football media, former athletic directors and other football representatives from all regions of the state.
Each Monday, following a high school football game weekend, one head coach will be announced.
At the conclusion of the high school football season, each winning coach will receive a framed certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Colts Head Coach Chuck Pagano, Colts General Manager Ryan Grigson and Colts Youth Football Commissioner Mike Prior, as well as a $1,000 donation from the NFL Youth Football Fund. In addition, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will contribute $1,000 for the school’s athletic fund.
