Butler F Roosevelt Jones named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week
From Butler Athletics
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. — Sophomore Roosevelt Jones, who helped lead Butler to a stunning victory over previously unbeaten and No. 1-ranked Indiana, has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week. The weekly award, for games played Dec. 10-16, was released by the conference office on Monday (Dec. 17).
Jones, a 6-4 forward from O’Fallon, Ill., was called the best player on the floor by Butler head coach Brad Stevens after the Bulldogs’ 88-86 overtime victory over Indiana. The accolade was well-earned. Jones recorded his fifth career double-double with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds against the Hoosiers, and he was headed for a rare triple-double with a game-high seven assists, before fouling out with two minutes remaining in regulation play.
The second-year Butler player hit six of 10 shots from the field and four of six from the free throw line, and he added a pair of blocked shots in 29 minutes of action. The 12 rebounds and two blocked shots matched his previous career-high, while the seven assists were a new career-high.
The victory was Butler’s first in five tries all-time against a No.1-ranked team.
Butler will return to action at home against state foe Evansville on Saturday, Dec. 22. The game at Hinkle Fieldhouse will start at 2 p.m. (ET).
