Going into their game on Saturday, there were intriguing story lines for both Ben Davis and Carmel.

Ben Davis entered the contest with a 10-3 record, including losses to Pike, North Central, and Warren Central.  The Giants were trying to prove they belonged in the conversation when it comes to contenders for the 4A state title.  For 4A #2 Carmel, with #1 Tech going down to Cathedral this week, the Greyhounds had the chance to reclaim the #1 spot in next week’s rankings.

In the end, the Greyhounds’ play wrote this story.

Carmel used the perfect combination of stingy defense and scorching hot shooting in their 72-44 blowout victory over.  Final stats showed Carmel shooting 73% from the floor in this one, including 11 of 17 from 3-point range (65%).  James Crowley missed only two shots, both 3-pointers, in leading the Greyhounds with 20 points.  Ryan Cline hit 4 of 5 from 3-point range finishing with 16 points, and Michael Volovic, who earlier in the week committed to Butler as a preferred walk-on, had 17.

Ben Davis, which did not score for over four minutes to start the game, was led by Tony Wills with 16 points.  Jordan King added 10 for the Giants.

Carmel improved to 13-1, 4-0 in the MIC conference.  Ben Davis fell to 10-4, 3-2 in the MIC.
