Hoosiers: What’s Hot and What’s Cold

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Each week I’ll run down what’s hot and what’s cold with Indiana football. Here’s my take from Thursday’s 73-35 win over Indiana State:
HOT
History – You have to go back more than 100 years to find the last time the Hoosiers scored that many points in a football game. Pretty amazing.
Gang tackles – There was one after another as the Hoosiers swarmed the ball.
Shane Wynn – He touched the ball three times – and scored three touchdowns. What more can you say?
Nate Sudfeld – Quarterback finishes 12 of 17 for 219 yards, with four touchdowns and one interception.
Effort – After the game Kevin Wilson offered this doozy: “It’s probably the first time since I’ve been here that I can say we played pretty hard across the board.”
COLD
Stars of yesteryear – Cameron Coffman and Stephen Houston, two of the most prominent figures on the team that went 4-8 in 2012, struggled in diminished roles. Perhaps this was symbolic as Indiana tries to move into a new era.
Jake Reed – Offensive lineman fails to make an impression when in the game as a sub at center, then gets ejected for throwing a punch.
Laray Smith – Freshman running back fumbles away a kick return and gets charged minus-12 yards.
