Zionsville struck early and often against the Fishers secondary and scored 28 unanswered points on its way to a 35-17 Hoosier Crossroads Conference victory on Friday night.
Zionsville’s Parker Dunshee hit favorite target John Naumcheff for touchdown passes of 37, 41 and 3 yards to put Fishers down 21-0. For the night, Dunshee was 18 for 22 for a total of 187 yards and Naumcheff had six catches for 102 yards and 4 TDs.
Fishers’ Connor Christiansen was intercepted at the 4:37 mark of the second quarter by Zionsville’s Tyler Glenn, and the 45-yard pick six put Zionsville up 28-0.
Fishers knew it would need to generate something and finally did on a 63-yard touchdown pass from Christiansen to Max Leamer at the 8:29 mark in the 3rd quarter. Christiansen finished the night passing for 271 yards on 17 of 27 attempts and would also uncharacteristically lead Fishers in rushing with 51 yards. Some key drops by receivers on balls that should have been caught also crippled Fishers in the game.
Fishers played without athletic receiver J-Shun Harris, a difference maker also in the kick return game. Fishers ran the ball 26 times for only 71 yards and 2.7 yards per rush average.
Naumcheff’s 4th touchdown reception from 10 yards out at the :36 mark of the 3rd and go input Zionsville up 35-7 in the fourth quarter.
The Tigers added 10 more points in the final quarter, but it was clearly all Zionsville Eagles in a game that sets up a big meeting between Brownsburg and Zionsville next week. Fishers will have to travel to Lafayette Jefferson, seeking to rebuild the pride.
NEXT WEEK: Fishers @ Lafayette Jefferson.
