Pacers continue improving… their draft position

INDIANAPOLIS — On Friday night, the Indiana Pacers had their last chance to play at home for a while. A brutal 5-game road trip out West looms next, and the Pacers have been awful away from home so far this season (3-16). Despite a nice comeback in the 3rd quarter, the Pacers still found themselves in the loss column for the ninth time in their last 10 games, losing 112-94 to the Phoenix Suns.

Not a lot of Pacer fans are attending the games, and not a lot of Pacer fans are even able to watch. But a lot of Pacers fans are keeping their eyes on Tankathon.com these days. And if Indy continues to struggle on the road over these next few weeks, they could find themselves with the 3rd or 4th worst record in the NBA- just a few weeks before the NBA Trade Deadline.  Most trades happen closer to the actual Deadline, but one has to wonder if the team will look any different the next time they play at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on January 26th.

Myles Turner, of course, is the main name everyone will be paying attention to.  Turner hasn’t raised his trade value much of late, compiling four single-digit scoring games already this month. But there will still be plenty of teams interested. It’s hard to know which rumors and “sources” to trust, especially this time of year. But trading Myles Turner seems like a realistic possibility this time around. It may only be a matter of when.

After the loss on Friday, Pacers Head Coach Rick Carlisle sounded like a broken record, once again repeating: “Disappointed with the outcome, but certainly not with the effort. We did a lot of good things but they had a big run that did us in.”

Justin Holiday (25 points including 7-of-14 from 3), is doing his best to remain positive. “There’s no quit,” he said. “That’s the type of team we have. We want to win. We’re just trying to find a way. We need to continue to be positive, even when it’s hard. Things could always be worse.”

As this season continues to spiral, Pacer fans can at least anticipate what might be next. Surely this time, a trade or two is on the horizon. A great draft pick might be on the horizon as well.
